Can you tell if someone\u2019s lying? It\u2019s harder than you might think, which is why investigators and border agencies sometimes look to science and technology for help. The polygraph – or plain old lie detector – has been around since 1921, but it\u2019s an intrusive technique and many authorities don\u2019t trust its results. Last month at the British Science Festival in Bradford, a team of scientists presented what they say is a more precise detector which can spot a lie just from the look on someone\u2019s face.
