Cold reception: Svalbard is closer to the North Pole than to Oslo

A local chapter of the Norwegian Green Party onĀ the remote Arctic island of Svalbard have suggested Syrian refugees could be housed there. The main settlement houses some 2,500 people, outnumbered by aroundĀ 3,000 polar bears roaming the rest of the archipelago.
