Running for your life – how Parkrun became a global phenomenon

IMG_5884The UK has one of the EU’s worst obesity problems. According to the OECD, the number of very overweight people there has increased with more than 90 percent since the 1990s. Now doctors are increasingly advising patients who need a healthier lifestyle to get engaged with the free running event Parkrun. I caught up with my local Parkrunners near Manchester to find out how this weekly race has grown from 13 runners in a London park, to a global phenomenon covering five continents.
