Nobel week – who gets the prizes and who picks the winners?

IMG_9685Nobel week has kicked off in Stockholm with the Prize in Physiology or Medicine awarded to a trio of American scientist who discovered what makes our biological body clock tick. The Nobel week ends on Friday with the announcement of this year’s winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo. But who decides the winners, and why are some prizes awarded in Sweden and the Peace Prize in Norway? I try to lift the curtain on a nearly 120 years old tradition for the BBC World Service:
